About the Area

 Risca
is found within the county of Caerphilly with its many historic landmarks. These
include Caerphilly Castle, one of the greatest Medieval Castles in Europe (as
featured in film 'First Knight' starring Richard Gere and Sean Connery).
The region also offers a wealth of other jewels such as:
- CWMCARN FOREST DRIVE: A magnificent 7 mile forest drive with picnic and BBQ
spots, many walking routes and a children's adventure playground.
- SIRHOWY VALLEY COUNTRY PARK: 1000 acres of woodland and meadows with walking
and cycle paths, picnic sites, toilets, riverside stroll and local nature reserve.
- BRECON AND MONMOUTHSHIRE CANAL: Enjoy canal boat trips on the 'Jemmia Morris'
along a navigable stretch of water known as the Crumlin Arm.
- TWMBARLWM: Sometimes referred to as the 'Pimple', this mountain offers breathtaking
views over the surrounding countryside. It is also an area of historic importance
which dates back to the Bronze Age.
However
Caerphilly isn't only mountains, fields and walks, there are many shopping areas
worth visiting, these include Caerphilly and Blackwood, both offering a good variety
of high street shops, supermarkets and good quality eating and drinking places.
For even more choice you can easily commute to the cities of Newport and Cardiff.
These can be reached either by the excellent road links (including the M4) or
by public transport with buses frequently departing from the Risca area.
Whether you're fit and active or just enjoy a good book, there is plenty on
offer in the local vicinity. There are numerous Leisure Centres, Golf Clubs, Libraries
and Museums, something to please everyone.
Education is important to us all and you will find many schools within close
proximity, including Cwmcarn High School, Risca Community School, Ty-Sign Junior
and Primary School, Risca Primary School, Waunfawr Primary School, Cwmcarn Primary
